The Velan Foundation Award Terms of Reference as approved by the Rotary Club of Montreal, June 9, 1981, and re-approved on April 3, 2007:
1. The Velan Foundation Award is presented to a person (male or female) for distinctive and outstanding work done overseas (outside the North American continent).
2. The person is to be a Canadian citizen.
3. The nature of the project should be voluntary and/or on an assignment involving physical, medical, literary, journalism, religious, educational, sport activities and/or any other facets of personal endeavours; the objectives being improving the quality of life and/or alleviating hardships, distress, sufferance to a community overseas.
Nominations for each year may be made by completing the Nomination Form and submitting it as instructed therein.
During the Spring of each year the Community Action Committee will embark upon the process of making a selection. The Award itself is to be made at a suitable ceremony later during the year.
